Huskies Roll In PNW Intercollegiate Opener

SEATTLE - Washington men's tennis opened the Nordstrom Tennis Center up for the fall season today with an unblemished opening day of the PNW Intercollegiates. The Huskies went a combined 8-0 in singles and doubles against top Northwest competition.
In the top "Purple" singles draw, top-seeded sophomore Kyle McMorrow cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alex Van Derschelden of Portland State. Third-seeded senior Tobi Obenaus posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Mark Shkrebtan of Seattle U., and senior Martin Kildahl advanced with two wins over players from Gonzaga and Eastern Washington.
In the Gold draw, junior Matt Stith earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jordan Prince of Seattle U., while freshman Max Manthou had a bye.
The Huskies posted one-sided wins in doubles as well. In the top bracket, McMorrow and senior Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, the top seeds, dropped just one game against Davis and Eischen of Gonzaga. Kildahl and Obenaus were 8-2 winners over Van Derschelden and Mam of PSU. In the second flight, Stith and Manthou were 8-1 victors over another PSU duo, Ericksen and Luben.
Main draw action resumes Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. with doubles play with the first main draw singles matches slated for 11:30 a.m. Consolation singles matches will start at 8 a.m.
