Live Scoring
BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- The UW women's golf team combined to fire an even par 288 in the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Boulder Creek Golf Club on Tuesday and are tied for sixth heading into Wednesday's final round.
Washington entered the day in second and managed to make a six-stroke improvement in its score from the first round but still lost ground on the field. Washington sits at +6 (582), one stroke behind Minnesota but 29 strokes behind tournament leader Arkansas.
With little to no wind at the 6,329-yard par-72 course, scores were there to be had. Six teams shot under par, including four that went under par by double digits.
"It's a little frustrating because the golf course was playing a lot easier," said Husky coach Mary Lou Mulflur about her team losing ground. "We are the only team in the top-seven that didn't shoot at least 7-under par as a group."
"But, we did a lot of things well," continued Mulflur. "We eliminated a lot of mistakes that we had yesterday and the attitude is really good. We feel like we're close...sometimes you just need to try less and relax."
Arkansas' Emily Tubert is running away with individual medalist honors and will take a six stroke lead into tomorrow's final round. She is -13 overall (131).
Seniors Anya Alvarez and Karinn Dickinson are pacing the Huskies' effort, each sitting tied for 14th at 1-under 143. Alvarez shot a team-best 2-under 70 on Tuesday.
Dickinson entered the round tied for second, but dropped 12 spots on the leaderboard after a 3-over 75 - a score that didn't count towards the Husky team total.
Sophomore Sadena Parks and freshman Kelli Bowers each shot a 73 on the day. Parks is tied for 45th at +5, while Bowers it tied for 51st at +6.
Freshman A Ram Choi had one of the more solid collegiate rounds of her short career with an even-par 72. She is tied for 60th at +7 overall.
The final round of the tournament begins Wednesday with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
