PALO ALTO, Calif. - Kelli Stewart scored in the 90th minute but the Huskies ran out of time as they fell to No. 1 Stanford, 2-1, in Palo Alto, Calif., Sunday afternoon.
The Cardinal remain undefeated on the season with the win at 13-0-2 and 4-0-0 in the Pac-10 while the Huskies fall to 9-5-1 and 2-2-0.
Stanford's defense was stingy as the Dawgs got just two shots off in the game, the first not coming until the 83rd minute by freshman Lindsay Elston (Sammamish, Wash.).
Elston got the assist on the lone Husky goal in the 90th minute as Stewart, a junior from Mukilteo, Wash., chipped the ball in for the score over the Stanford goalkeeper, Emily Oliver. It was the second goal of the season for Stewart.
Husky goalkeeper Jorde LaFontaine-Kussmann, a junior from Lakewood, Wash., made 10 saves in the game as Stanford took 35 shots, 12 on goal.
The first Stanford goal came in the fourth minute from Lindsay Taylor on an assist by Christen Press. Press scored the game-winner on the 88th minute.
The Huskies return to Husky Soccer Stadium next week to host Oregon on Friday at 7 p.m. and Oregon State on Sunday at noon which will also be senior day.
