SEATTLE - It was just a matter of which Huskies would take home the titles today at the inaugural PNW Intercollegiates, and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Brad Bator won out in the all-UW finals today at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
Four Huskies had successfully navigated the two singles flights this weekend to meet in the finals. In the top singles flight, Nedunchezhiyan overcame senior teammate Derek Drabble, 6-4, 7-6 (6). Bator overcame his fellow junior Skyler Tateishi, 6-3, 6-2 in the Flight B final.
The tournament featured players from UW, Oregon, Boise State, Portland, Portland State, Idaho, Eastern Washington, and Gonzaga and marked the first home action for UW since last spring.
The one title that eluded the Huskies today was in doubles. Bator and Nedunchezhiyan also teamed up this weekend to make the final, defeating Boise State's Hodel and Mullen, 8-1, in the morning's semifinal. But in the last match of the day, Portland's Zivkovic and Schleining beat Bator and Nedunchezhiyan, 8-5, in the finals.
Washington will compete again in the Nordstrom Fall Open in two weeks then break for a month before dual matches begin in January.
