LAS VEGAS - The Washington Husky softball team closed out the Sportco Spring Kick-off Classic with a 4-4 tie against host UNLV on Sunday afternoon after the game was halted in the bottom of the sixth inning due to a prearranged drop dead time limit. The Huskies and UNLV agreed to a 6:20 stop time in order to allow Washington to catch their flight out of Las Vegas.

Because the game was stopped with UNLV still batting in the bottom of the sixth, the game reverts back to the end of the fifth inning and officially ended then. It marks the first tie for Washington since a 5-5, nine-inning game against Minnesota on Feb. 17, 2003.

The 11th-ranked Huskies scored a single run in the top of the second inning and added three more in the third after getting three hits in the inning.

Caitlin Noble led off the second with a single up the middle and was sacrificed over by Alyson McWherter. After Morgan Stuart lined out to UNLV pitcher Traci Odegard, Huskies third baseman Dani Stuart hit a hard ball that Rebels shortstop Jaci Hull wasn't able to come up with and Noble came around from second to put Washington up 1-0.

The Huskies tacked on three runs the next inning, with Alicia Blake, Lauren Greer and McWherter all getting hits in the inning.

Marnie Koziol led off the inning with a walk and eventually was moved over to third on a double by Blake, her second of the season. Greer then drove home Koziol with a single to left field as Blake moved over to third base. Noble came up and hit a ball to Hull, which drew a threw home in an attempt to get Blake running from third. The ball got away from catcher Laura Briones and Blake scored to put the UW up 3-1.

Greer ended up scoring on the play after Noble got caught in a rundown between first and second base. Noble was able to avoid being tagged out just long enough for Greer to score from third.

UNLV scored a single run the bottom of the first inning and then scored three more in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game up.

Greer and Noble both went 2-for-3 in the game as Washington finished with six hits. Noble pitched all five innings, giving up five hits, three walks and three earned runs while striking out eight.

Washington heads to Tempe, Ariz., next week for five games at the Kajikawa Classic hosted by Arizona State. The Huskies open the three-day tournament with a game against Texas State at 9 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 15.
