TAMPA, Fla.-- The 15th-ranked University of Washington softball team (8-1) run-ruled Wichita State 9-0 in five innings Monday to win the USF Wilson Invitational with a 5-0 record.
The Huskies jumped on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the first inning on a two-out RBI-double by sophomore Alicia Matthews.
Washington scored five more runs in the third fame on two hits to go up, 7-0. Junior Lauren Greer sparked the rally with a leadoff double and walks to Jacki Hansen and Ashley Charters loaded the bases. Dominique Lastrapes then belted a ball into left-centerfield that deflected off the centerfielder's glove to score three runs. Senior Dena Tyson followed with a two-run home run over the left field fence.
UW added two more runs in the fifth inning with RBI-singles by Caitlin Noble and Greer for the eventual 9-0 win.
Sophomore hurler Danielle Lawrie (6-0) earned the victory as she scattered two hits and struck out 10 in five innings of work.
