Huskies Hunting for Six Titles at Chandler Cup

BERKELEY, Calif. - Junior Patrik Fischer dispatched Eric Roberson of Boise State in the Flight A Singles Quarterfinals, just one in a number of victories for the Husky men's tennis team on day two of the Chandler Cup hosted by California.
Fischer, who was mistakenly reported as having fallen in yesterday's Round of 16, actually defeated Asaf Cohen of San Francisco, 6-4, 6-2. Fischer then went on to defeat Roberson today by the same score, to advance into the semifinals of the top singles flight.
Heading into Sunday's final day of play, the Huskies have at least one singles player or doubles team still alive in all six main flights. They are the only team that can make that claim.
Remaining singles entrants will need to win twice on Sunday to take the title, while doubles teams are already in the final.
Also playing for titles tomorrow include juniors David Chu and Ryo Sekiguchi in Singles Flight B. Chu defeated USF's Andrea Zannoni in three sets, while Sekiguchi downed Falko Huttenberger, 6-4, 6-3.
Freshman Skyler Tateishi reached the Flight C semis with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Gabe Kanzelmeyer of Nevada. However, freshman Martin Kildahl and red-shirt freshman Alex Rosinski lost their quarterfinal efforts.
In the top doubles flight, the second-seeded duo of Andy Kuharszky and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan moved on into the final with two victories, first over Hirshman and Kaiser of Stanford, 8-6, then 8-2 over Stryhas and Harbatsiuk of Sacramento State.
Rosinski and Kildahl paired up for two more wins in Doubles Flight B. They handled teams from Loyola-Marymount and Cal Poly to reach the final where they will face a Santa Cruz pair.
Also winning twice were Sekiguchi and Tateishi in Doubles Flight C. Their 8-6 quarterfinal win over USF's Nachbauer and Ching moved them into the finals where they'll face another Loyola-Marymount duo.
Following the conclusion of the Chandler Cup tomorrow, the men will be off until mid-January.
