FULLERTON, Calif.- The ninth-ranked Washington softball team (18-6) opened the Kia Klassic with a 2-1 victory over 13th-ranked Pacific (17-6) this afternoon. Sopomore Dena Tyson delivered a two-out single in the first inning to score Kristen Rivera and Rita Roach. The hit proved to be the game winner as Pacific could muster just one hit off of junior hurler Ashley Boek.
Boek held the Tigers to three hits and one run to pick up her 11th win of the season. Pacific scored its lone run in the fifth inning when Gina Carbonatto singled to left field, was sacrificed to second and scored on a Michelle Anunciation single.
Boek didn't allow another base runner and finished the game with four consecutive strikeouts.
The Huskies continue tournament action with a 7 p.m. game against Texas A&M.
