Washington Softball Defeats San Diego State

POWAY, Calif.- The fourth-ranked Washington softball team (11-2) defeated San Diego State, 7-0 this evening at the Campbell/Cartier Classic. Senior hurler Tia Bollinger (7-1) held the Aztecs to one hit over seven innings, while collecting her third shutout of the season.
The Huskies scored a pair of runs in the first inning on three hits. Dominique Lastrapes and Rita Roach led off the rally with singles through the infield and advanced to second and third on a passed ball. Dena Tyson followed with a sacrifice fly to score Lastrapes and a single by Kristen Rivera scored Roach.
Washington surged ahead in the fifth inning when Rivera belted a three-run home run over the centerfield fence to make the score 5-0. It marked Rivera's fourth home run of the season.
UW added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning on three hits and a San Diego State error. Tyson led off with a base hit to right field that the SDSU player missed played allowing Tyson to advance to third. Rivera picked up her fifth RBI of the day when she hit in Tyson with a single up the middle. Sarah Hyatt reached base on a fielder's choice and scored on a hit by Callie Bergan.
Bollinger was perfect through six innings, sitting the Aztecs down in order. Meagan Hartung spoiled the perfect game, laying a base-hit bunt down to lead off the seventh inning.
Bollinger finished the game with eight strikeouts, tying her second-highest strikeout total of the season.
The Huskies continue tournament action tomorrow with a game against 16th-ranked Fresno State at 5:30 p.m. and an 8 p.m. match-up against Auburn.
