SEATTLE - Washington women's tennis (6-1) defeated Sacramento State (5-3), 5-2, Thursday afternoon at the Llyod Nordstrom Tennis Center at the University of Washington. Following it's best performance in school history at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships last week the Huskies continued their success at home.
The Huskies gained the doubles point as they won two of three matches. The tandem of 13th-ranked Carter and Sumantri downed Karnaukhova and Gronowicz, 8-6, in the No.1 Doubles, along with Hadzic and Nauenberng defeating Helland and Fessenko, 8-6. The Duo of Ann and Hoe battled, but eventually fell to Erikson and Roslund, 8-4.
Winning four of six singles matches the Huskies fought hard. No. 49 Dea Sumantri upset No. 45 Margarita Kamaukova. No. 35 Claire Carter was defeated by No. 53 Ana Erikson. Erin Hoe, Dinka Hadzic and Saskia Nauenberg were all victorious in their matches. UW's Stephanie Svanfeldt fell to Cecilia helland in straight sets.
Washington will host No. 42 Oregon, Saturday, Feb. 21, at 12 p.m. at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. It will be the first of two meetings between Washington and the Ducks, but will not count toward Pac-10 standings. The March 12 meeting in Eugene will count towards conference standings.
