Huskies Sign ODU Transfer Marina Markina

SEATTLE – Washington women's tennis head coach Robin Stephenson has announced the signing of Old Dominion transfer Marina Markina on Thursday.
"Marina is going to be an excellent addition to the program," Stephenson said. "She is going to be a great teammate, a great competitor and a great representation of what our program is all about. She's humble, hardworking and knows how to win. She has a lot of upside in her game and we are excited to see the impact she has here and can't wait to get to work with her in the fall!"
Markina joins a Husky squad that is returning all eligible players next season – Alexia Jacobs, Karolina Kozakova, Waverly Potter, Jermine Sherif, Zehra Suko, Carina Syrtveit and Marie Weissheim. UW is also welcoming an incoming freshman in Nela Jandova.
This past season, Markina helped ODU secure their sixth-straight conference championship while the Monarchs finished the season ranked 58th. ODU competed in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Tennessee.
Markina posted a 20-7 overall singles record including going 14-2 during the dual season at the No. 6 spot. In doubles, she went 14-17 at the No. 2 spot during her sophomore season.
On Jan. 21, Markina was awarded Sun Belt Doubles Team of the Week after a 2-1 weekend at the Michigan Hidden Dual. Alongside her partner, the pair defeated Ella DeFord and Madeleine Rexroat of Xavier, 6-3 and Lily Jones and Ava Bruno of Michigan, 6-2. Jones finished the season as the No. 22 doubles team. The lone loss came against Ohio State's Audrey Spencer and Alessia Cau, 7-5.
Academically, Markina was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. She posts at 3.93 GPA while majoring in finance.
Prior to Old Dominion, Markina won three international singles titles and 11 international doubles titles. She made the finals of the Women's ITF 15k doubles tournament in Telde, Spain. She held an ITF junior ranking of 179 and held a WTA doubles ranking of 1220.
