HEAD COACH JUNE DAUGHTERY
General Comments: "Obviously all Pac-10 games are big games. Offensively we weren't hitting very many shots so we counted on our defense to get us into the game. We handled the triangle offense well. In the second half we took them out of their flow when we stepped it up defensively. Then the game came back to us on the offensive end."
On wearing Cal down in second half: "It takes a huge amount of energy to play the way that they do. We were spreading the floor to help us get the ball more inside and get more penetration. We also were able to pull their backside help out."
On halftime message: "I told them to stay with it and that you'll have those nights. I thought we were dribbling the ball too much offensively and so we wanted to get in triple-threat so we could hit the first open player and get back into our system. Once we started cutting more we got a lot more open looks inside."
On missing shots: "We were as cold as the weather outside tonight. We were frigid. That's just part of basketball. The encouraging side of it was on defense where we got our energy up."
On Stanford game: "It's a different year and a different race. Stanford is a different team and we're a different team. We're just focused on us."
GUARD Giuliana Mendiola
On slow start: "I think we had good intensity, obviously we're going to miss some shots. I thought our defense let to our offense."
On second half changes: "I thought we came out with a lot more intensity in the second half. Our energy wasn't as good in the first half. We thought we played pretty good defense, but our offense wasn't there. We weren't cutting hard and we were sloppy with the ball. In the second half we were a lot more focused and stuck it to them."
On wearing Cal down: "Cal plays with a lot of intensity. We don't worry about wearing them down, we just have to play our game. As long as we're moving the ball around and taking good shots, we'll be alright."
FORWARD Andrea Lalum
On game helping prepare for Stanford game: "We were able to stay focused on Cal and not look past them. Tomorrow we can put all our attention on Stanford. When it comes down to it, we want to control what we can and that's us."
