
Alex Vlaski Defeated in Second Round of NCAA Singles Tournament

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Washington freshman Alex Vlaski (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) was defeated 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(2) by Stanford's 28th-ranked David Martin in the second round of the NCAA Singles Championships Thursday morning on the campus of Texas A&M University.
Vlaski advanced to the second round by defeating Daniel Klemetz of Middle Tennessee State in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The 2002 64-man singles tournament marked the first time since 1999 that two Huskies were chosen to compete, this year being Vlaski and teammate Matt Hanlin (Birmingham, England) when three years ago, Eric Drew and Robert Kendrick were also selected.
The Huskies are coming off a season in which they recorded their second consecutive Sweet 16 appearance, finishing the year at 19-7 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
