No. 26 UW Men's Tennis Suffers First Loss on the Season

MALIBU, Calif. - The 26th-ranked Washington men's tennis team (13-1, 0-0) lost its first match on the season in a close 4-3 battle against No. 31 Texas Christian University at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
The four-team Pepperdine Invitational also included the host Waves, who defeated No. 33 Arizona State, 4-0. Pepperdine and TCU will play in the championship match Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies got off to a fast start earning the doubles point, as both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles tandems notched victories. Matt Hanlin (Birmingham, England) and Dillon Ruby (Westlake Village, Calif.) were victorious defeating Chris Brandi and Alex Menichini, 9-7. Peter Scharler (Salzburg, Austria) and Ari Strasberg (Ramat-Hasaron, Israel) beat Jacob Martin and Daniel Scholten, 8-3.
No. 84 Hanlin secured his tenth-straight win, defeating No. 70 Fabrizio Sestini in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, while No. 39 Alex Vlaski (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) took care of Toni Gordon in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.
However, the Huskies could not hold on as four other players went down. In No. 3 singles, TCU's Menichini defeated Christoph Palmanshofer (St. Georgen, Austria), 6-2, 6-7, 6-1 to clinch the win for the Horned Frogs.
UW's Ruby lost his first dual match on the year as Scholten defeated the Husky, 6-4, 6-1. Playing No. 4 singles, Strasberg lost to Martin in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, while Scharler lost a 6-4, 6-3 match to Daniel Wajnberg.
Washington will face Arizona State in the consolation match on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
