Husky Men's Tennis Remains Undefeated With 4-0 Win Over Louisville

SEATTLE, Wa. -The No. 23 Washington men's tennis team (6-0, 0-0) defeated No. 55 Louisville, 4-0, Friday afternoon in the first day of the Great Northwest Shoot Out at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center.
The Huskies went up 1-0, earning the doubles point as all three pairs notched victories. In the No. 1 position, Christoph Palmanshofer (St. Georgen, Austria) and Alex Vlaski (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) defeated Cardinal pair Cody Conley and Octavian Nicodim, 8-3. Juniors Matt Hanlin (Birmingham, England) and Dillon Ruby (Westlake Village, Calif.) arrived at a 8-6 victory over Paulo Carvalho and Alex Sivertsen in the second position. In the third slot, Peter Scharler (Salzburg, Austria) and Ari Strasberg (Ramat-Hasaron, Israel) beat Matt Mayer and Brent McCombe, 8-2.
Earning the second point for Washington was No. 44 Hanlin, who played in the No. 2 singles position and defeated Carvalho in two sets, 6-2, 6-1. Scharler claimed the third point for the Huskies, with a convincing 6-2, 6-3, win over Louisville's Sebastian Aspillaga in the No. 5 position. Freshman Vlaski clinched the win in the first position, defeating Conley in two sets, 6-4, 6-2.
Matches were suspended for Strasberg, Palmanshofer and Ruby upon Washington's victory.
The Huskies will continue non-conference play in the Shoot Out throughout the weekend, facing No. 24 Indiana State on Sat., Feb. 16 at 1:30 p.m. and No. 49 Northwestern on Sun., Feb. 17 at noon.
