UW vs. California
Coach June Daugherty
General Remarks:
" It was good to see us bounce back after our trip down in the desert. We made big improvements in our transition defense, moved well with out the ball and our bench and starters responded well. It is critical for our motion to move without the ball and we made new, fresh cuts, which helped our offense. We showed our growth when we came out strong after half time. Andrea Lalum came out fired up and really led our team. There were no let downs tonight, we played 40 minutes of strong basketball."
On offense:
"We had a lot of players score tonight and that's due to the varying cuts and movement with out the ball. Our execution was excellent and it allowed us to get a lot of open looks. We had a lot players in their rhythm tonight and play hard."
On Rebounding:
"Our rebounding is getting a lot better and the team is really taking it to heart that this is an area they need to improve upon. They are realizing that they have to compete for the ball and that showed tonight."
Washington Player Quotes
Kellie O'Neill
"Our offense was clicking tonight and we came out eager to play. We wanted to beat them very badly and came out on fire. Everybody scored and when our offense is clicking we are dangerous. We felt we embarrassed ourselves in Arizona and we wanted to come out and redeem ourselves. We worked really hard in practice on our motion offense, moving with out and concentrated on the little things that could kill us down the road. We were very focused on what we needed to accomplish tonight and that was too win."
Kristen O'Neill
"We improved on our transition defense tonight. We played well and took big steps forward in our offense. We had taken steps backwards against Arizona and tonight we moved forward. "
California Head Coach Caren Horstmeyer
General Remarks: "I wish we had given them a better game. I think we are very capable of giving them a better game. We are kind of in a transitional period right now where we are challenging some of the players in different ways and I think some of that came out a little tonight. I also think Washington had lost two games in a row and they took it out on us. They came out and played great. We have to get to a point where we are going to take it out on the next team. That is the sign of a good team and I think Washington is a good team because they took out their losses on the road on us here at home."
On motivating a young team: "I think confidence is a lot of it. Our players are still playing hard and working hard but I think your ego gets a little bruised and your confidence wanes a little bit. As coaches it is our job to do what we can to bring that back and that is what we're working on right now."
