St. George, Utah - Washington sophomore Jaime Clark hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth to lift the 12th-ranked Huskies over #17 Nebraska, 3-0, Sunday in the final day of action at the Red Desert Classic. With the win the Huskies move to 15-7 overall and finished 4-1 in tournament play.
The game was scoreless through six innings when Clark tagged her sixth home run of the season to also score junior Becky Simpson and senior Kelly Hauxhurst. Nebraska relief pitcher Peaches James had tried to intentionally walk Clark, however Clark was able to reach the pitch and drive in the winning run.
UW freshman Tia Bollinger allowed just two hits while striking out seven to move to 13-2 on the season with a complete-game shutout. Nebraska starting pitcher Leigh Ann Walker took the loss as the Cornhuskers fell to 10-9 on the season.
Washington will play host to a pair of games next weekend at Husky Softball Field versus non-conference opponent Texas on Saturday and Sunday.
