Washington Volleyball Drops Second Straight With Loss To #6 USC

SEATTLE - Facing its second top-10 opponent in as many nights, the University of Washington volleyball team fell to sixth-ranked USC Friday evening, 15-7, 15-5, 15-5, at the Trojans' North Gym in Los Angeles, Calif. With the loss, the Huskies fell to an even 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the Pac-10, while the undefeated Trojans improved to 7-0 and 2-0 in conference play.
The Huskies were led by senior opposite Emily Seacat (Ridgefield, Wash.), who had 12 kills, while sophomore Paige Benjamin (Redmond, Wash.) continued to be an offensive leader, tallying 11 kills. Setter junior Britni Churnside (Eugene, Ore.) had 30 assists and tied for the team lead with junior Allison Richardson (Hemet, Calif.) in digs with six apiece.
The sixth-ranked Trojans, however, hit a phenomenal .424 on offense and aced the Huskies nine times. USC's April Ross and Jennifer Pahl both tallied nine kills apiece, while teammate Antoinette Polk had 13 digs.
The Huskies return to Seattle for their first home match of the 2000 season versus conference foes Arizona State (September 22) and Arizona (September 23). Both matches are slated for a 7 p.m. start time at the Hec Edmundson Pavilion Addition.
