Volleyball Falls In Home Opener To Arizona State

SEATTLE - Washington's Pac-10 losing streak continued as Arizona State, led by Amanda Burbridge's 20 kills, defeated the Huskies 15-1, 15-10, 15-6 Friday night in volleyball action at the Hec Edmundson Pavilion Addition. The UW fell to 4-5 overall and 0-3 in the Pac-10, while the Sun Devils improved to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the Pac-10.
The Huskies were led by sophomore Paige Benjamin's (Redmond, Wash.) and Emily Seacat's (Ridgfield, Wash.) 11 kills, while setter/opposite Gretchen Maurer (San Clemente, Calif.) tallied a double-double with 19 assists and 12 digs. Seacat's 11 kills marked the eighth time in nine matches this season that the senior opposite reached double-figure kill totals.
While Washington struggled with its hitting (.099 hitting percentage), the Sun Devils hit .310 as a team including a .483 mark in game one. Burbridge also tallied 17 digs and a team-best four blocks to finish the night, while teammate Julia Leddy hit a sparkling .714.
The Huskies are back in action Saturday evening at 7 p.m. with another Pac-10 match versus #10 Arizona at the Pavilion Addition. The Wildcats are Washington's fifth ranked opponent in its last six matches.
