EUGENE, Ore. - Senior Jennifer Spediacci struck out 13 batters and knocked in the only run of the game to lead No. 1 Washington to a 1-0 victory over 22nd-ranked Oregon on Sunday at Howe Field. UW moves to 41-4 and 5-1, while the Ducks fall to 24-15 and 1-5.
In the defensive battle, both pitchers retired the side four times, and Spediacci matched her career-best strikeout total. Both squads managed just three hits each.
Washington's run came in the fourth frame, when Spediacci (23-1) knocked in junior Kim DePaul, who had reached base on a hit pitch. It was her 15th hit pitch of the season and 32nd of her career, both UW records.
