UW Women's Soccer Team Falls 3-0 at Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. - Forward Beth Culver scored a goal in each half Sunday as Georgia defeated the Washington women's soccer team 3-0, sending the Huskies home winless on their season-opening road trip.
The Huskies dropped to 0-2, including Friday's 3-0 loss at 10th-ranked Clemson. Georgia improved to 3-0-1.
Washington lost despite controlling the run of play, matching the Bulldogs' 15-shot total and holding a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Georgia goalkeeper Nicole Williams posted the shutout, registering 15 saves.
Culver opened the scoring from 14 yards away after beating UW freshman goalkeeper Hope Solo one-on-one 13 minutes into the game.
The scored remained 1-0 at halftime before Amy Berbary scored from close range at 52:52 off a set play. Her goal was assisted by Sheila Gartman's free kick. Culver capped the scoring at 87:38 on a 17-yard blast from the right side.
Solo, a high school All-American from Richland, Wash., recorded eight saves for Washington.
The Huskies return to Seattle for their home opener against top-ranked Santa Clara on Friday, Sept. 10. Kick-off is 4 p.m. at Husky Soccer Field.
