Top-Ranked Santa Clara Beats UW Women's Soccer Team

SEATTLE - Forward Megan Horvath scored two first-half goals for the top-ranked Santa Clara women's soccer team that defeated Washington 3-1 on Friday in front of 1,223 spectators at Husky Soccer Field.
The Broncos improved to 4-0 while dropping Washington to 0-3.
Horvath scored 58 seconds into the match, chipping a ball into the net from seven yards away. Passes from Aly Wagner and Mandy Clemens set up the goal. At 34:29, Horvath scored a close-range goal from the right post assisted by Nikki Serlenga and Kylie Bivens.
The Broncos added to their 2-0 halftime lead in the 53rd minute as Devvyn Hawkins headed in a Ruby Vigil corner kick from 10 yards out.
Washington scored its first goal of the season at 82:22, a 15-yard blast from sophomore forward Caroline Putz (Bountiful, Utah). Theresa Wagner (Edmonds, Wash.) and Jana Wilson (Port Orchard, Wash.) assisted on the lone Husky tally.
Freshman goalkeeper Hope Solo (Richland, Wash.) registered 10 saves for the Huskies who were outshot 20-8. Santa Clara's Alice Gleason saved two shots.
The Huskies begin a four-game road trip next weekend, playing San Jose State Saturday in Portland, Ore.
