PORTLAND, Ore. - Junior goalkeeper Leslie Weeks registered a shutout Sunday in her season debut, lifting Washington to a 3-0 victory over Oklahoma State that clinched the championship of the Adidas Tournament at Portland's Merlo Field.
Washington (2-3) was the only undefeated team in the four-team field, winning the Portland tournament for the first time in five tries. On Saturday, the Huskies posted a 2-1 win against San Jose State which Sunday beat host Portland 2-1.
Weeks, who didn't play during the opening four games of the season, recorded two saves en route to the first shutout of the year for the Huskies.
Washington dominated play with a 21-4 advantage in shots. Oklahoma State (1-7) got nine saves from goalkeepers Katharine Doud and Laurel Catlett-King.
The Huskies tallied the only goal they needed 22 minutes into the match as Caroline Putz chipped in a shot from 5 yards off a pass from Anna Biddle.
Washingon's 1-0 halftime lead increased in the second half on goals by freshman Megan McKinstry and junior Tami Bennett. McKinstry's goal, during the 48th minute, was a 20-yard blast off a pass from Erin Otagaki. Bennett scored at 82:15, her second goal of the tournament.
Washington continues its four-game road trip next weekend, visiting 14th-ranked Brigham Young on Friday, Sept. 24 and Utah on Sunday, Sept. 26.
