STOCKTON, Calif. - The Washington volleyball team posted one of their best hitting percentages ever Friday night en route to a 3-0 win over St. Mary's at the Pacific Nike Invitational. Game scores in the one-hour, one-minute match were 15-3, 15-1, 15-6.
The Huskies (3-4) made only six hitting errors in 76 attempts and posted a .408 hitting percentage, their best during the nine-year tenure of head coach Bill Neville. St. Mary's (0-5) posted only 20 kills and made 18 errors in 82 attempts for a .024 mark. The UW record for hitting percentage in a match is .500, set in 1986.
Washington was led by sophomore Allison Richardson, who was nearly flawless, posting 12 kills and only one error on 18 swings. Richardson also had match highs in digs (10) and aces (3). Kristina Laffling and Lisa Underhill added eight kills apiece.
Two St. Mary's players shared the team high for kills with five -- Rachel Avilla and Megan Coolbaugh.
Washington closes out their eight-match, season-opening road trip Saturday evening when they play Miami (Ohio) at the Pacific Invitational.
