SEATTLE -- Sophomore forward Caroline Putz scored twice while teammate Theresa Wagner contributed a goal and an assist on Friday during Washington's 4-1 women's soccer victory over Oregon State at Husky Soccer Field.
Washington improved its Pacific-10 Conference record to 2-1-1 with a 5-7-1 overall mark. The Beavers dropped to 7-7-1 and remained winless in four conference outings.
Putz opened the scoring in the sixth minute with an 18-yard blast. The Bountiful, Utah native tallied the fourth UW goal at 71:06, receiving a pass from Dee Behler and dribbling through several defenders before firing an 8-yard shot. Putz has amassed five goals and five assists during the last six Washington games.
Wagner, a junior midfielder from Seattle's Lakeside High School, gave the Huskies a 2-0 lead at 35:39. She placed a 7-yard shot into the net, a goal set up by a long free kick from senior Natalie Campbell.
Forward Tami Bennett scored the third Washington goal, a 10-yard boot off a cross from Wagner at 55:46. Bennett has been a catalyst this season for the Huskies, accumulating five goals and three assists in the team's five wins while going scoreless in the team's other eight games. The UW junior was the most prolific prep scorer in Washington state history, amassing 152 career goals at Seattle Christian High School.
Oregon State got on the scoreboard with six minutes remaining as two reserves combined for a goal. Ashley Johnston headed in a cross from Morgan Crabtree from 5 yards out at 84:49.
Junior goalkeeper Leslie Weeks registered two saves for Washington which outshot OSU 15-8. Elizabeth Pease was credited with one save for the Beavers.
Washington hosts Oregon at noon on Sunday at Husky Soccer Field.
