Melanie Wade
- Title:
- Volleyball Volunteer Assistant
A four-year letterwinner for the Huskies indoors and on the beach, Melanie Wade returned to Washington in 2020 as the Volunteer Assistant Coach. Wade was a standout middle blocker for the Huskies from 2012-15, ranking in the UW career top-10 in blocks and attack percentage, and helping UW reach four Regional Semifinals, two Regional Finals, and one Final Four in 2013.
In her one season on staff, Wade helped the Huskies return to the Final Four for the first time since her playing days. Washington went 20-4 in the abbreviated spring 2021 season and won the Pac-12 title for the first time since 2016.
Upon Wade joining the staff, Head Coach Keegan Cook said, โIโm thrilled overย the return of Melanie Wade. Iโve always deeply respected Melโs commitment during her time here at Washington. Sheโs a disciplined, conscientious leader, and our student-athletes will benefit immensely from her mentorship.โ
A native of Palo Alto, Calif., Wade was one of the top recruits in the country when she came to Seattle in the fall of 2012.ย Over the next four seasons she was part of the winningest class in UW history, as the 2015 senior class had 117 wins and just 16 losses, winning the 2013 and 2015 Pac-12 titles.
She won the 2015-16 Tom Hansen Medal awarded by the Pac-12 to each member institutionโs outstanding senior male and female student-athlete. Wade was a two-time All-Pac-12 honorable mention and a three-time Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team choice.
Wade ranks fifth in school history with 484 total blocks and her .359 career attack percentage is seventh in school history. She had 586 career kills, and was also a great serving middle, collecting 89 career aces.
After completing her Bachelorโs in Psychology, Wade remained enrolled in the Intercollegiate Athletics Leadership Masterโs program and played a fourth season of beach volleyball in 2016-17. She then signed to play professionally with Svedala Volley in 2017-18.
