Jonathan "J-peg" Soriano is currently the Design Director of Digital Displays, creating and managing graphic content for electronic signage and TV displays throughout all sport venues within the UW athletic footprint.
A graduate of Western Washington University in 1994, Soriano started his design career as a Multimedia Artist at Asymetrix, a Paul Allen company, developing licensed screen saver content for IPs including Jurassic Park, The Pink Panther, and Baywatch. A year later, in 1995, he would transition to another Paul Allen company, Starwave, and be part of the team that launched the ESPN.com website.
During his tenure at ESPN.com, Soriano not only created graphics for the main site, but also for websites under the ESPN umbrella including the first iterations of NFL.com, NBA.com, WNBA.com, NHL.com, and NASCAR Online. In 2001, he gained local recognition for "Ichiro-Man," a photoshopped comic strip featuring MLB and Seattle Mariners star Ichiro Suzuki.
After a stint at Pacific Trading Cards in 2004 designing cards under license for the NHL, CFL, TNA Wrestling and Garfield The Movie, Soriano joined the University of Washington Intercollegiate Athletics department in 2005. As Publications Coordinator, he received multiple Citations of Excellence in Publications from CoSIDA including Best in the Nation in 2009 for the UW Softball media guide.
In 2011, Soriano was promoted to Manager of Print and Motion Design to oversee graphics and content to be displayed on the new center hung board and surrounding fascia inside Alaska Airlines Arena. In this capacity, he designed and implemented scoreboard and game day looks for Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball and Gymnastics. With the demolition and start of reconstruction for Husky Stadium following the 2011 football season, Soriano also designed the scoreboard look for the 2012 Husky football home games played at Lumen Field, home of the NFL Seattle Seahawks.
Upon the reopening of Husky Stadium in 2013, Soriano’s title would change to Design Director of Digital Displays, fully transitioning away from print, solely focusing on electronic displays. Designing layouts for the large scoreboard, slash boards and fascia within Husky Stadium as well as the concourse and premium area TVs and menus in the concession stands, Soriano would go on to design the scoreboard looks for Husky Ballpark, Husky Softball Stadium and Husky Soccer Stadium in subsequent years.
The only child of Filipino immigrants Carolina (an artist and teacher,) and Marc (a 28-year US Navy veteran and 24-year administrator at the University of Washington Applied Physics Lab,) Soriano will mark the start of his 20th year with the University of Washington Athletic department in August.
