Washington alum Abdul Gaddy (UW ’13) is in his second season on Danny Sprinkle's Washington staff and first as an assistant coach entering the 2025-26 season.
Gaddy spent the 2024-25 season at UW as director of player development, returning to his alma mater after more than a decade playing at the professional level in the US, Italy, Latvia and Germany.
One of the highest-rated recruits to ever commit to the Huskies, Gaddy was a McDonald’s All-American and top-15 prospect out of Ballarmine Prep.
A two-time captain with the Dawgs, Gaddy ranks No. 2 in program history in career assists with 469, averaging 4.0 per game for his career. The Tacoma product finished his career as the Pac-12’s active leader in assists, more than 100 ahead of the next closest player.
Gaddy burst onto the scene as one of the youngest players in the nation as a freshman in 2009-10, starting the final 28 games of the season as the Huskies captured the Pac-10 Tournament Championship. As a rookie, Gaddy dished out 81 assists, the seventh most ever by a UW freshman.
Getting off to a strong start to his sophomore campaign, leading the Pac-10 in assist-to-turnover ratio at 3.1, ranking seventh in average assists (3.8) and ninth in three point shooting percentage (40.6) before suffering a season-ending ACL injury in January.
Battling back from the setback, Gaddy started all 35 games for Washington the following season. Gaddy finished the 2011-12 season with 312 assists, the third most in a single season in the history of the program. Gaddy was nominated for the Bob Cousy Award, awarded annually to the nation’s top point guard.
In his final season in Purple and Gold, Gaddy didn’t slow down, racking up 157 assists for the ninth-highest single season total in Husky history, becoming the first Dawg ever to post back-to-back 150+ assist seasons. The 6-3 point guard also posted his first double-digit scoring season, averaging 10.9 points per night.
