Brooke Mooney '18, the 2018 Pac-12 Women's Rowing Athlete of the Year and U.S. Olympian, joined the Washington program as an assistant coach before the 2024-26 season.
In her first year at UW, Mooney helped guide the Huskies through a big transition as the Huskies moved to the Big Ten Conference. Washington met the challenge, sweeping all seven conference championship finals to win the UW athletic department's first Big Ten title. The Huskies were only the second program in conference history to sweep every final.
Washington also continued its run of top-five NCAA finishes in 2025, earning the fourth-place trophy at the national championship regatta.Β
A walk-on rower at UW, Mooney was a standout cross-country skier from Vermont in high school. After arriving at Conibear Shellhouse, she took to rowing quickly, making the second varsity eight crew that won bronze at the 2015 NCAA Championships.
After her sophomore year was cut short by injury, Mooney was a key component of the UW varsity eight that completed the first-ever sweep of NCAA grand finals, earning the Huskies their first NCAA title since 2001. In 2018, Mooney won silver at NCAAs and was named first-team All-America, along with her Pac-12 honor.
Following her college career, she earned a spot on the U.S. National Team, rowing in the eight that finished fourth at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. At 2023 world Rowing Championships, she earned a silver medal.
