Women's Golf

- Title:
- Volunteer Assistant Coach
David Elaimy, a University of Washington graduate and former member of the men’s golf team at the UW, is now entering his sixth season with the women’s golf team as the Performance/Surgical coach. Over the last five years, Elaimy has reinvented the way golf is taught at the UW.
In the first few years of coaching, Elaimy focused on the mechanics of golf, but quickly found out that it yielded limited success when his players got into a tough match. He then began implementing the mental aspect of his teaching, becoming an innovator of the sport.
Elaimy teaches his players to be self-aware. Having self-awareness and "putting anxiety in the moment" helps his players to not think about the finish line as much, but instead, to have focus on each individual shot.
Elaimy has helped with the resurgence of the women’s golf program at the UW, beginning in 2011 when the Huskies returned to the NCAA championships, where they placed 16th overall.
In each of the five seasons that Elaimy has coached, the Dawgs have reached the NCAA regionals. The Huskies reached an all-time high with Elaimy, attaining a No. 1 national ranking in the spring of the 2013 season and again in the fall of 2014. The Dawgs have qualified for two NCAA Championships, while also sending Ying Luo to the 2013 NCAA Championships as an individual competitor.
The native of Los Angeles graduated from Boise High School in Idaho before coming to UW. He hasn't left. Elaimy and his wife Lisa (UW Class of 1989, in pharmacy), have a daughter, Hannah, and son, Isaac. The family lives in the Wallingford area of Seattle.
