National Championship Head Women's Golf Coach Mary Lou Mulflur announced the hiring of Courtney Jones as an associate head coach during the summer of 2019. The highly accoladed Jones comes from Oklahoma State having spent the last six seasons as the Cowgirls' head coach with two seasons prior to that as an assistant in Stillwater.
The 2016 Big 12 Coach of the Year has led her teams to two Big 12 titles (2013 and 2016) along with seeing 14 student athletes earn Academic All-American honors. She led Oklahoma State to 13 tournament titles while seeing two student athletes earn individual Big 12 titles. Additionally, while on staff, she was a part of 19 tournament wins during her tenure.
"This position was so appealing for many reasons, mainly having the opportunity to work with Mary Lou and learn from her, collaborate with her and help take an incredibly successful program into the future is exciting," said Jones. "From the moment I stepped on campus, I was impacted by the sense of family I felt amongst the athletic department. I was really impressed by the resources available to the student-athletes to help them achieve high level academics and athletics. Washington is a special place and that was clear immediately, I'm fired up to be here and can't wait to hit the ground running."
"First of all, we're just grateful that we are able to add such an experienced coach to our staff," said Mulflur. "Courtney's skill set was very appealing and I know that we will do a lot collaboratively. I wanted someone that would enhance our student-athlete experience and I know she'll do that from day one. To be able to get someone on our staff with her resume is unbelievable and I can't wait to have her start working with our program because the impact is going to be seen immediately."
Under Jones' leadership, the Cowgirls won 13 tournament titles, including the 2016 Big 12 Championship, two individual Big 12 titles as well as a Big 12 Player of the Year and Big 12 Freshman of the Year awards.
OSU returned to the national stage in 2016 with the program's 21st trip to the NCAA Championships. The Cowgirls led the country with 563 birdies in 2016 and had three players post stroke averages that ranked among the top eight in school history.
She mentored Kenzie Neisen, who won back-to-back individual conference titles, while leading Chih-Min Chen to earn the league's Freshman of the Year award. Additionally, Julie Yang earned 2014 Big 12 Player of the Year honors and was joined as an all-conference selection by Jayde Panos. In all, Jones led 19 Cowgirls to All-Big 12 honors.
A native of Lake Quivira, Kan., Jones was instrumental in the Cowgirls winning multiple times and producing several individual accolades during her stint as an assistant under current OSU men's head coach Alan Bratton.
Jones came to Stillwater in 2011 after working as the senior tournament director for the American Junior Golf Association, a position she held since 2007. While working at the AJGA, she helped plan and run 39 national junior golf championships and served as tournament director for 21 of those events.
She served as Vice Captain to LPGA legend Meg Mallon for Team USA at the 2011 Ping Junior Solheim Cup in Ireland.
Jones also worked as a regional assistant for the AJGA since 2009. In that capacity, she was responsible for marketing and sponsor development in the South Central region, which spans nine states and includes Mexico.
A graduate of the University of Tulsa, Jones spent the 2006 fall season as a graduate assistant at her alma mater.
Jones joined the Golden Hurricane program after a successful junior career that included being named 2000 HP Scholastic All-American, 2000 Rolex Junior Honorable Mention All-America, Kansas Golfer of the Year and Midwest Section PGA Girl Junior Golfer of the Year.
In 2001, she was also selected as the AJGA Girl Player representative to serve on the AJGA Board of Directors.
Despite seeing her collegiate career hindered due to a back injury during her junior year, Jones was a three-year letterwinner at TU and registered three career top-20 finishes. She also earned all-WAC Academic honors twice and was named an Academic All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association in 2003 and 2004.
Jones graduated Cum Laude from Tulsa with degrees in international business and Spanish and a minor in economics. She and her husband Justin reside in Seattle with their dog Chili and cat Princess Leia.
