โI am so enthusiastic about the University of Washington and its exceptional offerings,โ said Chapman. โThe location in a vibrant metropolitan city, combined with proximity to water and abundant natural surroundings, creates an ideal environment. The university's outstanding facilities and academic excellence truly embody the ideal balance of resources and opportunities. After meeting with the Powells and discussing their vision and goals for the program, I felt a strong sense of alignment and excitement to contribute to something truly special. The dedicated staff and clear strategic direction further reinforce my enthusiasm for this opportunity.โ

Chapman comes to Washington after assistant coaching stints at San Diego State, Columbia, Northeastern, and Harvard. He was a standout decathlete for UConn, so UW is his third time as a Husky (Northeastern and UConn are the Huskies as well).
ย
Across three seasons in San Diego, Chapman mentored five NCAA West Prelim qualifiers, seven All-Mountain West honorees, and All-Americans in the triple jump and multi-events.
ย
Chapman helped Simone Johnson unlock All-America status in 2023, as Johnson placed 11th in the triple jump at NCAA Outdoors and 14th at NCAA Indoors, going beyond 44-feet both indoors and out. That same season, Jenna Fee Feyerabend earned All-America honors indoors and out in the multis, placing ninth in the pentathlon at NCAA Indoors and 11th in the heptathlon at NCAA Outdoors, and also making NCAA Prelims in the high jump.
ย
The 2022 season saw Johnson continue to progress in the triple jump, winning the Mountain West title, and Chapman coached Sara Absten to the Mountain West indoor pentathlon title, and a 2-3 outdoor heptathlon Mountain West finish for Absten and Feyerabend. A highlight of 2021 was jumper Jade Cany clearing the fourth-best high jump mark in program history (5-9 3/4) and making NCAA Prelims.
ย
Chapman was in New York coaching Columbia Universityโs jumpers and multis from 2016-20, spanning four seasons. Chapman coached Anna Williams to the 2017 Ivy League indoor title in the women's triple jump, and Williams and Maryam Hassan went 2-3 outdoors. Chapman had the back-to-back menโs indoor Ivy League Triple Jump Champion in 2019-20 with Daniel Igbokwe, and the Ivy womenโs high jump champion in 2020 with Anna Jordahl-Henry.
ย
Also at Columbia, Chapman coached Kali Hatcher, who took silver at the 2019 USATF U20 Championships in the triple jump, then finishing fourth at the U20 Pan-American Championships for Team USA. Chapman had a 44-foot triple jump as just a freshman and was the Ivy League triple jump runner-up outdoors in 2019 and indoors in 2020.
ย
Chapman spent the 2015-16 season coaching at Northeastern University, spending time with the vertical jumps and multi-event specialists. Five of Chapmanโs athletes combined to score 56 of the teamโs 157 points as the Huskies won the New England Outdoor Championship, as well as the CAA Outdoor Championship in 2016.
ย
Prior to Northeastern, Chapman was a volunteer assistant at Harvard for the 2014-15 season, working with the sprints, jumps, hurdles, and multis, and designing strength and conditioning routines for distance runners as well.
ย
Chapman was a conference champion and All-American decathlete for the east coast Huskies. He won the 2013 Big East Conference decathlon with a career-best 7,437 points, and went on to take 20th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships that year. He was a five-time All-Big East selection and graduated in 2014 with a degree in Exercise Science.
