UW360 In-Depth Feature on Sidhu
University of Washington graduate Pabail S. Sidhu is in his fifth year as the Director of Basketball Strategies for Lorenzo Romar and the UW men’s basketball program.
Sidhu’s distinctive and game-changing position has him responsible for the team’s analytics, data analysis, advanced scouting reports and providing unique innovation and strategies for both the student-athletes and staff.
He is the first hire in collegiate athletics to do sports analytics and data analysis on a full time basis and he most recently created his own app for the hoops team. Additionally, he is one of just a few individuals across both the collegiate and NBA scene to conduct real-time analytics and provide live reports to the coaching staff during games.
While working closely with the coaches, Sidhu aids in game planning, scouting, recruiting and overall strategies to help advance the program and also aids with individual player performance tracking and monitoring to help each player reach their best potential.
Outside of the UW basketball program, Sidhu has lent his knowledge and skill set to many national entities including ESPN, the NBA, the Washington football team amongst many others.
For ESPN, Sidhu partnered with Ken Pomeroy to create a player projection model that predicts how transfers would perform at their new university, which was widely well received. He works with 2-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year Jamal Crawford and other local NBA players during the off-season to analyze their game, helping improve on-court efficiency and effectiveness.
During his time working with the Huskies football program, Sidhu created the infrastructure and reporting system that lets football conduct advanced analytics for their team. He additionally provides analytical and strategic support to the Washington executive staff helping with various projects to provide information to help better the athletic department.
Sidhu resides in Mill Creek with his family and is currently training to run a marathon.
