Brennan Carroll returns to Seattle, where he spent six seasons on the Seahawks' staff, as Washington's offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. Carroll came to the UW along with head coach Jedd Fisch. He spent the previous three season in the same role in Tucson.
Last year, Carroll's offense helped lead the Wildcats to their best seasons in years, as Arizona went 10-3 and beat Oklahoma in the Valero Alamo Bowl. The Wildcats were eighth in the nation in passing offense (308.3 yards per game) and 20th in total offense (448 yards per game).
Additionally, Arizona also ranked among FBS' leaders in third-down conversions (8th) and fourth-down conversions (14th), red-zone offense (10th), passing efficiency (10th) and scoring offense (18th).
In 2023, Carroll coordinated an offense featuring quarterback Noah Fifita, the Pac-12's Offensive Freshman of the Year, and the standout receiver duo of Tetairoa McMillan and Jacob Cowing.
In his role as offensive line coach, Carroll mentored Jordan Morgan, who earned a spot on the All-Pac-12 first team, along with honorable mention selection Jonah Savaiinaea.
Prior to the 2021 season, Carroll joined Fisch's initial Arizona staff from the Seattle Seahawks, where he had spent the previous six seasons as running game coordinator and offensive line coach He had spent the prior decade at USC and at the University of Miami (Fla.).
In his second season with Arizona in 2022, the Wildcats averaged 461.9 yards of total offense per game to finish 22nd in the nation. Arizona notched 318.4 passing yards per game, ranking the 'Cats eighth in the FBS.
At the 2022 season's end, both Savaiinaea and McMillan were honored as Freshmen All-Americans.
The improvement over the 2021 season was remarkable. Arizona went from the 124th in the nation in scoring offense in Fisch's first season to 48th in 2022. Additionally, Arizona improved from 22nd in the country in total offense in 2022 after having finished 101st the year before.
In his first season at the helm of the Wildcats offense, Carroll helped guide wide receiver Stanley Berryhill III and offensive lineman Josh McCauley to All-Pac-12 honors. Berryhill enjoyed a career year in Carroll's offense, hauling in a team-leading 83 receptions and 744 yards. McCauley anchored the Wildcats line, starting every game at center and earning the highest Pro Football Focus rating among Arizona's offensive linemen.
The Seahawks' offense was among the NFL's best during Carroll's time in Seattle. The team ranked among the top five in rushing in three different seasons, which includes being the top rushing offense in the NFL in 2018. Offensive players on Seattle's roster made 11 trips to the Pro Bowl during Carroll's tenure with the Seahawks, led by quarterback Russell Wilson's five trips to Hawai'i. The franchise posted an overall record of 61-33 in those six seasons with five playoff appearances.
The 44-year-old has strong coaching bloodlines as the oldest son of former USC and Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. Prior to his move to the NFL, Carroll spent four seasons coaching tight ends and wide receivers as well as handling recruiting coordinator duties for Miami under head coach Al Golden from 2011 to 2014. The Hurricanes had three recruiting classes ranked in the top 15 nationally during those seasons.
His coaching career began at USC where he spent the 2002 and 2003 seasons as a graduate assistant before being elevated to the Trojans' tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator for six seasons. Carroll coached elite tight ends for USC as the position coach, including 2007 Mackey Award winner Fred Davis as well as Dominique Byrd, who was selected in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft. While in Los Angeles, Carroll was on staff for eight total seasons as the Trojans won 91 games, won four Rose Bowls and defeated Oklahoma in the national championship game in the 2005 Orange Bowl.
Carroll played tight end in college at Pittsburgh after transferring from Delaware. He earned his bachelor's degree from Pittsburgh in 2001. Carroll and his wife, Amber, have three children.
