Summer Update: Meggs? Hot In Cape Cod League

SEATTLE – Summer league baseball is now under way as Washington Baseball is well represented around the country and throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Among those returning for the Huskies is outfielder Jack Meggs who is playing in the prestigious Cape Cod League for the Brewster Whitecaps. Off to a great start, Meggs is hitting .270 and has appeared in 15 games. In a recent contest, Meggs led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 as Brewster defeated the Harwich Mariners 8-1 on July 3.
Also representing the Huskies on the East Coast in Virginia is junior Josh Cushing. Playing for the Strasburg Express of the Valley League, Cushing is currently hitting .339, the third highest batting average on the team. He has registered 19 hits in 15 games including two homeruns and 13 RBI.
Kyle London is another Husky out east, playing for the Lima Locos of the Great Lakes League. London has taken advantage of the several outings he has seen with a .316 batting average.
Husky shortstop Chris Baker is playing for the La Crosse Loggers of the Northwoods League. Baker has recorded 6 RBI in 11 games for the Loggers.
Up north, Niles Nygaard has seen action in 16 games with the Matsu Miners in the Alaska League, hitting .267 and is tied for most doubles on the team with five.
Over in Colorado, Shane Olson is hitting .320 over 50 at bats for the Boulder Collegians of the Rocky Mountain League.
The Huskies are also well represented throughout the Pacific Northwest in the West Coast League. Down south, Andy Cosgrove and Alex Nesbitt are playing for the Corvallis Knights in Oregon. Cosgrove has appeared in 11 games with an impressive .387 batting average while Nesbitt has made two starts for a 1-1 record.
KJ Brady leads the Bellingham Bells with five doubles on the summer. Brady is hitting .241 just behind teammate and junior college transfer Alex Galgano who is hitting .250. Channing Nesbitt has appeared on the mound in six games for the Bells, recording 11 strikeouts in 12.0 innings pitched.
Also, performing well close to home are incoming freshman, Willie MacIver and Joe DeMers playing for the Walla Walla Sweets as well as AJ Graffanino who is playing for the Cowlitz Black Bears. MacIver has appeared in 11 games, hitting .256 while DeMers has made six appearances on the mound including three starts. Graffanino has the second highest batting average for the Black Bears, hitting .356 in 14 games.
In the Seattle area, incoming freshman Peyton Lacoste has played in all ten games for the Rainier Snowcaps of the Northwest Collegiate Baseball League with a .356 batting average.
With plenty of summer ball action left, the Huskies are sure to continue representing Washington Baseball well while gaining more experience heading into the upcoming season.
