UW Aims For 4th Win Of 2012 At U.S. Intercollegiate

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 5/7 Husky men's golf team, winners of two of their last three tournaments, aim to maintain their winning ways this week as they compete in the three-day, 54-hole U.S. Intercollegiate starting Friday at Stanford Golf Course.
Washington has already won three times this year, including the Bandon Dunes Championship last time out in mid-March. Chris Williams picked up his UW record-setting fifth individual medalist title in that event.
This week, the Huskies will be among 16 schools competing in the Bay Area. All teams are looking to hone their games as conference tournaments loom for most squads within a month.
The Huskies, ranked fifth by Golfstat.com and 7th by Golfweek/Sagarin, are joined by (Golfstat.com ranking in parentheses) other top-10 teams UCLA (6th), USC (8th) and San Diego State (9th). Others just outside the top-10 are No. 12 Oregon and No. 13 Stanford. Colorado, Fresno State, Nevada, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Francisco, San Jose State, UC Davis, Utah and Washington State round out the field.
Washington will go with the same lineup that helped them earn a share of the title at Bandon Trails two weeks ago. Besides Williams, Cheng-Tsung Pan, Charlie Hughes, Trevor Simsby and Cory McElyea will represent the Huskies.
Williams is 6th in the latest World Amateur Golf Rankings, while Pan is No. 12. In addition, Williams is rated 4th by Golfstat.com and 6th by Golfweek.com. Pan is 11th and 28th, respectively, in those same rankings.
Tee times start at 8:00 a.m. on Friday. Washington will be paired with USC and Stanford's "A" squad on Friday and be among the first teams to tee off on No. 1.
Stanford Golf Course is a par-70, 6,727-yard track located on the campus of the university.
