WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Junior Todd MacCulloch was named the Pacific-10 Conference men's basketball Player of the Week on Monday for the second time this season, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced.
The 7-foot, 280-pound center from Winnipeg, Manitoba averaged 24.5 points and 11.5 rebounds while converting 84-percent of his shots from the field (21-of-25) during Washington's first Pac-10 road sweep in 10 years.
MacCulloch hit 14-of-15 shots, scoring 31 points with 15 rebounds in an 81-71 win at Oregon on Thursday. He had 18 points and eight rebounds in a 70-55 victory Saturday at Oregon State. The Huskies had not won both games on a conference road trip since 1987, a span of 41 two-game series.
MacCulloch, who was the Dec. 1 player of the week, joins Chris Welp as the only Washington players honored by the conference twice in the same season. Welp garnered three career Pac-10 Player of the Week awards, including two in 1986. Mark Sanford and Detlef Schrempf are the only other Huskies to win weekly conference honors twice during their career. MacCulloch leads all Pac-10 players with 9.6 rebounds per game and ranks second in scoring with a 19.6-point average. He ranks among the national leaders with a 66.9-percent field goal accuracy (111-of-166).
He led the nation in field goal shooting last season, converting 67.6 percent of his shots. In October, MacCulloch was named to the 10-man Playboy Pre-Season All-America Team.
The Huskies are off to their best start since 1984 with an 11-3 record. The 4-1 Pac-10 mark is their best since 1987.
Washington hosts California on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. before entertaining undefeated Stanford on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 3 p.m.
