Huskies In 15th Following 36 Holes
March 09, 2026 | Men's Golf
DALY CITY, Calif. – Washington men's golf sits in 15th place after two rounds at The Desimone Invitational at Lake Merced Golf Club.
"Really tough day for us," head coach Alan Murray said. "We didn't have anyone play well. Usually, you get a couple of guys that will have a pretty good day but we didn't have anyone. I think it should be sobering for us to realize that we have to be much better at the basics."
Washington posted an even par (288) round in round one and followed with a 4-over (292) in the second round later in the afternoon. The Dawgs are 4-over overall for the tournament.
It was a tale of two nines in both rounds as the five Huskies went a combined 5-under on the backside - the team's first nine - and 23-over on the front.
Jake Foley led the team with an even par (72) round one and followed with a 2-under (70) second round. He is in a tie for 33rd heading to the final 18 holes.
"Jake was pretty steady but overall on a day when everyone was making a lot of birdies we were not," Murray said. "We hit the ball into positions to be able to score for the most part but loose shots, lack of sharpness with our short games and putting really killed us."
Grady Millar went 1-under (71) on his first round and closed with a 2-over (74). The freshman is in a tie for 52nd at 2-over.
Jack Murphy had a stretch of five birdies in six holes on his way to a 33 on the back nine in round one on his way to a 2-under round. Over his 36 holes, he is 2-over overall and in a tie for 59th.
Finn Koelle was 3-over in his first round of the day and bounced back with an even par second 18. Koelle is in a tie for 64th.
Jacob Goode rounded out the lineup at 14-over over his 36 holes.
"We have been improving and perhaps we thought we were better than we are," Murray added. "We need to remember to keep it on the right side of the hole, be focused on having good speed with our putts and not try to make everything necessarily. Try put the ball in position to be able to score from."
The Huskies will be paired with LMU and Utah in the final round beginning at 9 a.m. PT off hole No. 10.
"We need to have a good day tomorrow to ensure we leave here for something we can build upon," Murray concluded. "We have to show that we are better than how we played today."
