March 18, 2026 | Softball
SEATTLE – The No. 17 Washington softball team (23-6, 6-0 Big Ten) ended its home stretch 8-0, completing the homestand with an 8-0 run rule victory over North Dakota on Wednesday night at Husky Softball Stadium.
Nine of UW's 13 consecutive wins have come in run rule fashion, as the Huskies have won 13 straight and improve to 8-0 at home.
Morgan Reimer and Sophia Ramuno combined for the shutout, the 10th of the year for Washington.
The Huskies got a little bit of help from everyone on Wednesday night on the way to their 23rd win of the year, with three freshmen in the starting lineup – Ally Hetzel playing catcher, Mila Reddy getting her second start at second base and Melody Acevedo playing shortstop.
An RBI single from Giselle Alvarez got things going for Washington, as the junior finished the evening 3-for-3 with four RBI. The Alvarez single helped score leadoff hitter Kaycie Burdick from second base for the first run of the game.
The Huskies went up 3-0 in the bottom of the first, with Alexis DeBoer and Alvarez bringing in two more runs.
Getting the start behind the plate for the fifth time this season, Ally Hetzel went 2-for-2 on the night, first with an RBI single that brought in Alvarez.
Alvarez, who notched a single, double, and home run, blasted her ninth homer to deep center field in the bottom of the second to extend the Husky lead to 5-0.
Alvarez struck again in the bottom of the fourth, doubling to center field to bring home pinch runner Addie Craig.
Zuri Patterson made an appearance as a pinch hitter and singled up the middle to bring in a run in Ava Carroll.
Also getting a nod as a pinch hitter was Riley Peschek, who ended the game with an RBI single to bring in the eighth run and trigger the run rule.
A 10-day road trip is ahead for the Huskies, starting with a three-game series at Michigan kicking off Friday, March 20. Washington then stays in the Midwest for a midweek matchup at Loyola Chicago on Tuesday, March 24 before playing three games at Iowa March 27-29.
