Dawgs Earn Five Straight Run Rule Victories In San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The No. 24 Husky softball team (15-6, 0-0 Big Ten) earned its fifth run rule victory in as many games this weekend, capping off a trip to San Diego with an 8-0 victory in five innings over Cal Poly on Sunday at the Reggie Smith Softball Complex.
The Huskies outscored their opponents 53-7 in five games in San Diego, improving to 15-6 on the season. Washington has now run ruled its opponents in eight games this season.
In the final game of the USD Tournament, the Huskies scored eight runs on nine hits against the Mustangs.
Morgan Reimer finished the game dishing out a total of 45 pitches, including a three-pitch inning where three straight Mustangs had groundouts.
One Husky run scored in the bottom of the second, courtesy of a Kaycie Burdick RBI single that scored Ava Carroll.
The Huskies piled on offensively in the third inning, scoring seven runs to deal the run rule victory.
In the bottom of the third, Alexis DeBoer was first to reach first base on a walk. Giselle Alvarez then reached first on a single.
Ally Hetzel stepped up to bat and notched a three-RBI home run, her fourth of her freshman campaign.
Later in the third, Sophi Mazzola walked before Melody Acevedo stepped up and notched a double to help Mazzola score the fifth UW run.
Kaycie Burdick hit a bunt single, advancing Acevedo to third base. Jadyn Glab reached base on a walk to load the bases, then Alexis DeBoer slashed a triple deep in left field to score three Husky runs in Burdick, Acevedo and Glab.
Washington opens the home season after a month on the road with a matchup against Seattle U on Tuesday, March 3. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Husky Softball Stadium.
