Huskies Dominate in Tiger Beach Weekend Tournament
February 28, 2026 | Beach Volleyball
BATON ROUGE – The Washington Beach Volleyball Team put on a dominate display this weekend from the Tiger Beach Challenge in Baton Rouge, La. As the Huskies went 3-1 on the weekend, earning wins over Louisiana-Monroe, Southern Mississippi, and No. 12 LSU.
From Fridays matches, the Huskies opened the weekend with a 2-3 loss to unranked side Alabama-Birmingham, where three of five duals went into the third set. Of those three only Teila Allen and Emma Hohenauer emerged with the win with a late 15-12 decision. With the other point coming by way of a Sarah Wilcock and Ella Tyus straight set victory over Blazers' duo Torsone and Rich, 21-15, 21-19.
In the second match, Friday afternoon's affair with the Warhawks of Louisiana-Monroe , the Huskies made a statement, holding the Warhawks scoreless in the matchup, while winning 5-0 in straight sets. Highlighted by Katarina Pantovic and Emma Hohenauer's 21-13, 21-8 thrashing of Warhawks' pair, Marquez and Hunter.
Moving into the Saturday slate, the Huskies were warming up as the sun was coming up in Seattle as they began play promptly at 6 a.m. pacific, taking on the Golden Eagles of the University of Southern Mississippi. The Huskies prevailed 3-2 in this bout as the Golden Eagles, took the Huskies the distance winning in straight sets against the Washington top pairs, before falling in the final three matches in straight sets themselves. As the Dawg's Ellis Hay and Mariana Tomasová cruised to a solid victory, winning 21-14, 21-17, while Sarah Wilcock and Ella Tyus clinched the final point of the match.
Moving into the final match of the day for the No. 18 Huskies, hosts No. 12 LSU started strong, holding early leads in each of the first set of matches. The 12th-ranked Tigers would soon find that these leads would be for naught, as the Tigers would not hold an official lead in their home match. As despite going down early in both the fourth and fifth duo's of Sarah Wilcock and Ella Tyus Alina Urzuva and Avery Towne would split those sets with the Huskies taking the 1-0 lead, and the Tigers equalizing.
In the second half of matches the Huskies built upon an already impressive performance, by then sweeping the No. 12 Tigers, with Niki Egan and Mariana Tomasová adding to the score line to give Washington a 2-1 advantage, and the match clinching victory coming from Katarina Pantovic and Emma Hohenauer in a 21-18, 17-21, 15-7 third set victory. Teila Allen and Mayamay Brown would go to provide us with the icing on an already impressive cake, emerging victorious with a 28-26, 17-21, 15-6 marathon match.
