
Huskies Open Season With 5-2 Victory At Hawaii

HONOLULU – The No. 22 Washington women's tennis team kicked off the 2026 season with a 5-2 win over Hawaii Wednesday night at the UH Tennis Complex.
The Huskies saw wins from No. 67 Erika Matsuda and Carina Syrtveit, who got Washington on the board with a 6-3 win, before Reece Carter and Marie Weissheim secured the doubles point with a 7-5 victory.
The Dawgs carried their momentum into singles play, winning four of six matches to take the season-opening win.
Matsuda was the first singles match to finish, defeating Grete Gull 6-2, 6-2. Jermine Sherif followed shortly after, defeating Emma Forgac 6-2, 6-2.
Marie Weissheim added another point for the Huskies, earning her first singles win for the Huskies with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Sophie Rachor. Carter rounded out Washington's singles wins with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Makeilah Nepomuceno.
Hawaii picked up their two points in the last matches of the day, with Hannah Galindo defeating Waverly Potter and Allaire Berl getting the win against Syrtveit after a tough battle.
Next up, Washington will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for ITA Kick-Off Weekend, beginning with a matchup against Pepperdine on Saturday, Jan. 24.
