Huskies Wrap Stint At World University Games
July 27, 2025 | Track & Field
SEATTLE -- Washington's stint at the World University Games wrapped up early this morning in Germany, as Amina Maatoug and Maggie Liebich raced for the Netherlands and USA, respectively, in the 1,500-meter finals.
One day after Julia David-Smith raced to the title in the 5,000-meters, Maatoug and Liebich were shooting for medals as well, but they got beat out in a big group sprint after a tactically paced final. The winning time only just broke 4:20, at 4:19.96. Maatoug came through in sixth-place in 4:21.78, and Liebich was ninth in 4:22.89.
Along with David-Smith's win, Chloe Foerster was seventh in the 800-meters final in one of the fastest times of her career, going 2:01.58 on Thursday. Former Husky Saskia Lloyd also ran the 10k for Australia on day one of the meet on July 21st, and finished 22nd.
Sophie O'Sullivan and Mia Cochran were originally entered in the meet, but did not compete.
