DeBoer Named Big Ten Freshman Of The Year; Huskies Collect Postseason Honors
May 09, 2025 | Softball
SEATTLE – Washington softball earned four postseason honors by the Big Ten Conference, highlighted by infielder Alexis DeBoer being named Freshman of the Year.
In addition, DeBoer also garnered first team all-conference honors and a unanimous selection to the all-freshman team. Jadyn Glab earned a spot on the all-defensive team at catcher.
DeBoer is the first Husky to earn conference freshman of the year honors since Taran Alvelo in 2016. Earlier this week, she was named a Top 10 finalist for NFCA National Freshman of the Year. On the season, she is batting .369 with nine doubles, a triple, 20 home runs, 26 walks and 54 RBI. She became just the fifth Big Ten freshman to hit 20 or more home runs in a season and the second Husky freshman to accomplish the feat.
The freshman from Sioux Falls, South Dakota twice earned conference weekly honors as player of the week on March 3 and freshman of the week on May 5. DeBoer was also named D1Softball National Player of the Week on March 11 after batted .538 with a double, five home runs, eight RBI, and five walks while posting a 1.769 slugging percentage at the Black and Orange Classic.
Behind the dish, Glab posted a .900 fielding percentage with 289 putouts with 16 assists and caught nine runners stealing (six in conference action). She had a career-high 15 putouts twice against North Dakota and Jackson State while throwing out two runners against Wisconsin.
Rounding out the 2025 accolades, Haley Winckler was named as UW's honoree for the sportsmanship team. Earlier this season, she recorded her first career hit against UC Riverside and first career RBI versus Montana.
Washington awaits the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday, May 11. The show will air at 4 p.m. PT on ESPN2.
