
Dawgs’ B1G Tourney Run Stopped In Semis, Fall To No. 2 Buckeyes

OJAI, Calif. – The Washington women's tennis team's Big Ten Tournament run came to a close Friday evening, as No. 2 seed Ohio State won the B1G semifinal battle 4-1 to earn a spot in the championship match with top-seeded Michigan.
The third-seeded Huskies (20-4, 11-2 Big Ten) lost the doubles point for the second match of the tournament but couldn't recover this time around, as Carina Syrtveit was the only Dawg to walk away with a singles win Friday.
The two teams split first sets across the board, with Erika Matsuda and Carter picking up first set victories over the top two Buckeyes and Syrtveit winning hers 7-5 on singles six.
Matsuda bested No. 30 Teah Chavez 6-4 in a first set and was up 1-0 in the third when OSU clinched the match.
Carter pulled off a 6-4 first set victory over No. 10 Luciana Perry but ultimately fell, dropping the next two 6-2, 6-2.
The Buckeyes found their other points on courts three and five. Sydni Ratliff beat Alexia Jacobs 6-0, 6-3 on court three and OSU's five, Bereznyak, defeated Sophie Luescher 6-1, 6-3.
The Huskies await their NCAA fate, as the NCAA women's tennis selection show will air on Monday, April 28 at 2 p.m. PT.
