LINCOLN, Neb. – Washington dropped the third and final game of its series against Nebraska on Sunday. Despite the 2-6 loss to the Cornhuskers, the Huskies claimed their first Big Ten series win with a 2-1 record on the weekend.
Washington falls to 7-9 and 2-1 in conference play while Nebraska improves to 5-8, including a 1-2 record in Big Ten contests.
The Huskies were unable to recreate the offensive outpouring from Saturday, scoring two runs on Sunday, the least by the Dawgs in a game since February 21 in a 0-2 loss to Stanford.
Despite the lack of runs, Washington had three players record multi-hit games. Sam DeCarlo, Braeden Terry, and Julian Sanders each tallied two hits, combining for six of Washington's 10 knocks on the day.
Terry and Sanders provided the RBIs for the Huskies, with Sanders getting an RBI single in the eighth and Terry recording a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
AJ Guerrero kept his hitting streak alive with a leadoff single in the first inning. He's now hit safely in 12 straight games.
Tommy Brandenburg made the start for Washington on Sunday, ultimately tossing 5.0 innings while allowing five hits, four runs, two of which were earned, and two walks while striking out two batters.
Sawyer Parkin had a productive day pitching in relief, going 2.0 innings while allowing just two hits and striking out two batters. He got out of a one-out bases loaded jam in the seventh, punching out the next two batters to prevent extra runs.
Bradley Gilbert took the mound in the eighth, allowing two runs and recording one out before Micah Bujacich came in and finished off the inning.
The Huskies finished the day with 10 hits, one behind Nebraska's 11, three errors, and 14 batters left on base.
Washington returns to action against Portland on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. in Portland.
