UW Crews Sweep All Races At Husky Open

SEATTLE – The Washington women's rowing team opened the spring season with wins in all of its races at the Husky Open Saturday morning on the Montlake Cut.
A total of 11 UW crews each raced twice, with Oregon State and the University of British Columbia competing in some of the races, while several events featured only Husky crews. After all 11 had competed in the first flight, the crews all rowed back to the start line and raced a second time, with some lineup changes between flights.
Washington's varsity eight won a close one against the Huskies' second varsity eight in the morning's first event, with a pair of crews from Oregon State taking third and fourth. The varsity finished just under one-and-a-half seconds ahead of the Husky 2V8+.
In the second flight of races, the Huskies' top crew also won a relatively close race over the second eight, this time expanding the margin to about 3.2 seconds.
Along with two additional UW crews racing in the open eights events, he Washington freshmen made their debut as three novice UW boats raced against one another in a pair of events. A total of four four-oared crews also competed, each racing twice during the course of the morning.
A total of 93 different UW athletes saw action on the water Saturday. The regatta also featured a long scheduled of juniors and masters races.
The Huskies will return to action in two weeks as the men and women compete in the 124th annual Class Day Regatta March 22 on Montlake Cut.
