
Huskies Begin Illinois Roadtrip With 4-1 Victory Over No. 39 Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – In the first meeting since 2018 for the two programs, the No. 20 Washington women's tennis team (11-2, 4-1 Big Ten) dominated No. 39 Northwestern 4-1 at the Combe Tennis Center Saturday.
The Dawgs have now won 10 of their last 11 matches, picking up their third conference road win of the season.
The 49th-ranked pair of Reece Carter and Alexia Jacobs defeated Northwestern's top doubles duo 6-2 for their second straight victory.
McKenna Koenig and Carina Syrtveit snapped their two-match losing streak with a 6-3 victory over NU's Rabjohns/Lau, notching their eighth win of the year and clinching the doubles point for Washington.
The Wildcats picked up their only win of the afternoon on the top court, with Erica Jessel defeating No. 84 Carter 6-0, 6-1.
The Huskies then went on to win the next three singles matches, as Jacobs, Erika Matsuda, and Syrtveit all delivered wins for Washington.
Jacobs defeated Northwestern's Mika Dagan Fruchtman, 6-3, 6-1 to give Washington its first singles win.
Matsuda dominated over Britany Lau, particularly in her second set, earning a 6-2, 6-0 victory on court two.
Syrtveit clinched for the Dawgs on court six, besting Rabjohns 7-5, 6-2 to improve to 9-3 in singles play this season.
"I am really happy the way we competed today in both singles and doubles," Syrtveit said. "After my first set and down 0-2, I felt the energy from my teammates, which gave me a new gear and helped me close out the match."
The Huskies have a short trip south to face No. 45 Illinois in Champaign, Ill. on Monday, March 24 at. 1 p.m. PT.
