
Huskies Sweep Friday Doubleheader

HONOLULU – Washington softball picked up two more wins on Friday at the OUTRIGGER Invitational to extend its winning streak to eight. The Huskies opened the day with an 8-0 five inning victory over Howard and closed it out with an 8-2 win over Hawaii.
UW improves to 14-7 overall.
HOWARD 0, WASHINGTON 8 (5)
Stevie Hansen (4-0) threw her second shutout in her last four appearances with a new season-high eight strikeouts – beating her previous best of seven from yesterday. She allowed only three hits and no walks.
Runners on second and third with one out in the fourth, pinch hitter Charity Sevaaetasi recorded a productive out to drive in the first run of the contest. Jade Bubke followed with an RBI infield single to make it 2-0.
Giselle Alvarez got the six-run fifth inning started with a bases loaded walk. Alexis DeBoer followed in the next at bat with her first career grand slam. Tia Durst brought in the final run of the game on a sacrifice fly.
WASHINGTON 8, HAWAII 2
Sophia Ramuno (5-2) picked up her fifth win and third complete game. She struck out 13 in the outing. It is her third 10+ strikeout game of the season and sixth appearance allowing no walks.
After a scoreless first, the Huskies plated seven runs in the second on six hits. DeBoer led off with a single and Alycia Flores followed with her third home run. A walk to Ava Carroll and single for Sevaaetasi put a pair of runners on for Sophi Mazzola to bring in the third run. Glab brought in two runs on her fifth double and DeBoer had her second hit of the inning to drive in two more.
UW's eighth run of the game came on Alvarez's single through the right side to score Mazzola from second.
Mazzola stole three bases in the game, becoming the first Husky this season to swipe three bags in a single game. She is 10-for-10 on the season. It is her second multi-stolen base game of the season.
Hawaii brought in two runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the UW lead to six.
Ramuno and the Husky defense were able to retire 10 of the last 12 batters face to secure the eighth straight win and move to 5-0 on the weekend.
The Huskies conclude the OUTRIGGER Invitational on Saturday against Hawaii. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. PT and live stats will be available at HuskyStats.com.
