
UW Splits Opening Day Of Littlewood Classic

The bats got started early with the Huskies putting up 11 runs in the first inning. Four Dawgs hit home runs – Sophi Mazzola (solo), Charity Sevaaetasi (two-run), Giselle Alvarez (two-run) and Jadyn Glab (two-run) in the first frame.
The last time UW hit four home runs in an inning was in 2015 against Boston U on February 13.
Washington added two runs in the second and two in the third for the 15-0 lead.
Utah Valley plated six runs in the fifth.
Mazzola ended the game going 3-for-4 with three RBI with her first career homer. Alverez, Glab and Riley Peschek added a pair of hits with a combines six RBI. Alycia Flores and Addie Craig added a hit each. In total, UW tallied 14 hits – the most so far this season.
Stevie Hansen (1-0) got the start in the circle, going the 4.1 innings with four strikeouts for her first win as a Dawg. Rylee Rehbein added a pair of strikeouts to close out the game.
Madi Balk made her Husky debut in the fifth.
#25 WASHINGTON 5, GRAND CANYON 9
The ball continued to fly in game two with Alvarez hitting her second home run of the day to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead after the first.
UW has hit a home run in six of seven games with 11 total on the season.
Grand Canyon cut the lead to one on an unearned run in the second. The Lopes added four in the third and two in the fifth for a 7-2 advantage.
With two on and no outs in the sixth, Alexis DeBoer brought in both runs with her second double of the season. Craig brought DeBoer around with a double of her own to cut the lead down to two.
GCU answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to extend the lead back out to four.
Morgan Reimer (1-2) got the start, tossing four innings with a season-high six strikeouts. Sophia Ramuno came on in relief going an inning with two strikeouts. Rehbein pitched the final frame with a strikeout.
The Huskies are back for day two of the Littlewood Classic on Saturday in Tempe. Washington will face Weber State (9:00 a.m. PT) and Arizona State (3:00 p.m. PT). The ASU game will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats for both games will be available at HuskyStats.com.
